When Bristol Zoo Project's ageing X-ray system reached end of life, the conservation organisation faced the challenge of replacing an essential piece of veterinary equipment. After the zoo contacted Leon Parsons, Managing Director of Probo Medical and Veterinary, we organised the donation of a GE CR X-ray system through our charity committee. The project also held personal significance for both Leon and Commercial Director Dani Langson as they've visited the zoo with their children over the years, which made the opportunity to support its work particularly meaningful.

Access to on-site diagnostic imaging plays a vital role in veterinary care at Bristol Zoo Project. X-rays support routine health checks, help diagnose injuries and illnesses, and enable the veterinary team to make timely decisions while reducing the need for external referrals. For an organisation caring for a wide range of species, dedicated imaging equipment on site is an important part of delivering high standards of animal welfare.

The donated CR system was delivered to the zoo's old site in January before being relocated to their new site in March. It works alongside the zoo's existing DR plate, and we had the X-ray vinyl wrapped in Bristol Zoo Project's branding, giving it a fresh look.

On receiving the X-ray system, Dr Michelle Barrows, Head of Veterinary Services & Conservation Medicine at Bristol Zoological Society, said: "We're incredibly grateful to Probo Veterinary for their donation. Having access to reliable on-site X-ray equipment is an important part of delivering excellent veterinary care for the diverse species we look after, and this support will benefit both our animals and our veterinary team for years to come."
