What Is a Contrast Injector?

A contrast media injector delivers contrast agents into a patient’s body during CT, MRI, or angiography procedures, giving radiologists enhanced visualisation of internal structures.

Done manually, contrast delivery is inconsistent. Flow rate, timing, and volume vary between operators, and that variability shows up in your images. A powered injector removes that uncertainty. It delivers the right amount of contrast at the right time, every time.

What to Consider Before You Buy

Modality compatibility — CT, MRI, and angiography each have different requirements. MRI injectors must be entirely non-magnetic. Angiography systems need to handle significantly higher pressures. Don’t assume one system covers all three.

Single-head or dual-head — Dual-head systems handle multiphase protocols and allow mid-injection saline dilution, which reduces contrast dose and supports more complex examinations. Single-head systems are simpler and more affordable, and they’re perfectly adequate for many departments.

Workflow and volume — High-volume departments benefit from wireless operation, programmable protocols, and consumable systems that minimise per-patient preparation time.

RIS/PACS integration — Integrated injectors feed data directly into your digital infrastructure, supporting dose management and audit trails without manual data entry.
