Our History
Probo Medical was founded in 2014 in Fishers, Indiana, with a clear and simple mission, to make high-quality diagnostic imaging more accessible and affordable. The business began by specialising in ultrasound probe repairs, saving customers an average of 70% compared to the cost of replacement, and quickly built a reputation for providing exceptional service.
In 2018, Varsity Healthcare Partners made a strategic investment in Probo Medical, providing the capital to scale rapidly. Over the next three years, six acquisitions were completed, transforming Probo from a regional US provider into a nationwide network offering ultrasound sales, service, rental and repair solutions.
In 2021, Avista Capital Partners invested and accelerated the international expansion. Backed by Avista, Probo completed more than a dozen acquisitions worldwide, establishing operations in the UK, France and Canada, and expanding its modality coverage to include CT, MRI, mammography, X-ray and more.
Probo Medical in the UK
Future Medical Equipment, founded in 2018, was a Bristol-based company specialising in de-installation, procurement and resale of pre-owned diagnostic imaging equipment. Acquired by Probo in February 2020, Future Medical grew to become the largest non-OEM purchaser of used imaging equipment in Europe due to the strength of its international partnerships and its reputation for professional, efficient service.
Also acquired by Probo Medical in January 2021 and officially rebranded in November 2021, MIUS, founded in 1997, was one of the UK’s most trusted independent providers of third-party service, repairs and maintenance for medical imaging equipment. Again, with a well sustained reputation, MIUS served over 250 NHS Trusts and hospitals across the country with sales, service, rental and repairs covering ultrasound, CT, MRI, X-ray and other imaging modalities, maintaining a remarkable 99.98% average equipment uptime rate.
The two acquired businesses came together and created the Probo Medical UK Headquarters in Gloucester.

Today, Probo Medical is a global leader in diagnostic imaging sales, service, rental and repair, trusted by hospitals and practices in more than 80 countries and supported by a team across North America and Europe. In 2023, the acquisition of AlphaSource Group further extended Probo’s service capabilities, creating one of the most comprehensive diagnostic imaging support networks in the world.
Our UK headquarters based in Gloucester is where we continue to serve NHS Trusts, private hospitals and specialist practices across the country, combining global scale with the local expertise and trusted relationships that have defined our business since 1997.
We recognized that by reducing the cost of medical equipment, we could also help make healthcare more accessible for everyone everywhere. However, we needed to offer more than ultrasound probes and repair to do this effectively.
We started to grow… fast. Each of our 11 acquisitions brought a team of experts and product offerings, which we’ve assembled into a simple, centralized solution for healthcare professionals.
