We recently completed a full CT system upgrade at Vets4Pets Barnsley, replacing an outdated scanner with a new Canon Aquilion Prime SP. This complex project was executed within a tight seven-day window, ensuring the practice could resume scanning as quickly as possible.

Strategic Planning for a Smooth Transition

Every successful installation begins with meticulous preparation. Before arriving on site, our team conducts a free site survey and feasibility assessment, reviewing exit routes, room layout, and any requirements for crane access or road closures. We also prepare a detailed Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) to guarantee safety and compliance at every stage. A dedicated project manager works closely with the veterinary team to coordinate scheduling, logistics, and communication—ensuring the timetable aligns with both staff and patient needs.

From De-Install to Operational Scanner

The project began on Thursday afternoon with the safe removal of the old CT system by our mechanical services team, supported by experienced service engineers. By Sunday evening, the new Canon Aquilion Prime SP was fully installed and operational. Following installation, the critical examination was successfully completed by IRS, with Radiation Protection Adviser Zoe Jane Smales (Smales Radiation Services Ltd) attending site to approve compliance. The next day, Clare Wray commenced application setup and training, concluding with live animal scanning and full operational handover by the end of the week.
