When St. Boniface Veterinary Clinic set out to build a new practice in Okehampton, they wanted the X-ray room up and running before the doors opened. Having already worked with Probo Veterinary on the DR and ultrasound installations at their main site in Crediton, they came back to us to handle the radiography for the new build.

The purpose-built clinic opened on 5th August 2026 and offers all vet services, adding capacity alongside the group's existing sites in Crediton, Tedburn and Bude. It's also our first Mindray Animal VetiGen installation in the UK. We supplied the VetiGen P58, a 5kW generator paired with a Mindray VetiPad DR panel, installed as a fixed room system.

The X-ray room was finished ahead of the rest of the building, which gave us an opening to complete the install that isn’t usually possible with most new-build projects. Rather than waiting for handover, our engineer Matt Harris was able to install the system on 27th May while the contractors were still working elsewhere on site. The practice had already completed the lead shielding and the lead-lined door, so Matt could start installing on arrival.

The work took a single day from start to finish, running from a single-phase 13A supply on a fused spur, and the system was integrated with the PC and imaging software ready for the practice network to be activated. The RPA carried out the radiation protection survey afterwards. Getting on-site early meant the room was ready and signed off well before opening.

Images are held in the practice's cloud-based veterinary software, so radiographs taken at Okehampton can be viewed at Crediton without moving files between sites. As St. Boniface is a group working across four locations, it keeps communication open across the sites, and cases can be discussed wherever the team happens to be.

Our Veterinary Sales Specialist, Pete Lockwood, returned to the practice at the beginning of August to deliver applications training. This enabled the clinical team to use the system confidently from the day the clinic opened, rather than learning it alongside their first weeks.

For St. Boniface, the result was a new clinic opening with radiography already running and staff ready to use the system, instead of slowly introducing the service once the practice was established.
